University to construct unique energy house

A traditional-style terraced house is to be built inside a three-storey, sealed testing chamber at the University of Salford. In addition to its original brickwork and roof, the world's first 'Energy House', will also be fully furnished and fitted as a typical working home with fully functioning water, gas and electricity supplies.

Salford City Council has agreed in principal for the former Colgate factory in Salford Quays to be redeveloped into a 35,000sq m office scheme.

The former factory, which is being renamed Soapworks, forms part of private equity firm, The Carlyle Group, and joint venture partners Abstract Nikal's plans to regenerate an 8.42-acre site in Salford Quays into a mixed use development known as Ivy Wharf. read more
