I can understand people opposing development near to them and as part of the Council's consultation exercise on the allocation of 1.2% of Salford's greenbelt for employment uses those people will be able to put their arguments forward. (Sourced from here.)
What I fail to understand is the irrational fantasy being conjured up which transforms Salford Council's promise not to reduce the overall greenbelt into a threat to "suffocate" our citizens. read more
Greengate public space designs approved

Whitelaw Turkington and Arup have had designs approved for two new public spaces at Greengate in Central Salford. (Sourced from Architects' Journal.)
These new spaces will link Manchester Cathedral Quarter with a new 13-hectare, mixed-use development. A new public square, animated by water features and sculptural Beacon Towers, together with a new bridge across the River Irwell are all part of a unique public realm design that will establish Greengate as a new city centre destination. read more
Salford homes to receive £3.75 million facelift

More than 300 homes in Salford are to get a £3.75 million facelift courtesy of the city council.(Sourced from here.)
The money, which has been provided by the Manchester Salford Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder Partnership (MSP), is being used to spruce up 337 privately-owned properties in the Gainsborough Street area of Higher Broughton. read more

In July, it was claimed that almost two thirds of the BBC staff scheduled to move to Salford Quays had refused to go. Perhaps they had read Friedrich Engels's The Condition of the Working Class in England, where he described the area as "unhealthy, dirty and dilapidated". Or maybe they had heard Ewan MacColl's song Dirty Old Town with its original line: "Smelled the spring in the Salford wind/Dirty old town, dirty old town."

Davis Langdon aims to reduce emissions

Global construction consultant Davis Langdon has released its approach to the Carbon Reduction Commitment, the UK’s new emissions trading scheme.
The scheme is to be introduced next year, but Davis Langdon, working on the huge Irwell City Park scheme, has already produced a detailed response.
