Uni announces MediaCityUK courses

More than 1,500 students will be studying at Peel’s MediaCityUK development at Salford Quays.
The University of Salford has announced it will run 39 courses from its state-of-the-art development, with students studying alongside creative media companies as well as several relocated BBC departments.
Many of the courses will be media focused, including ones concentrating on digital broadcasting, audio production, journalism, animation and media management.

Plan submitted for £26 million stadium

Detailed plans for the new £26 million community stadium at Barton go before city planners this week.
The largest single investment in sport in the city for decades is the result of the formation of joint venture company between Salford City Council and developer Peel.
In addition to providing the new home ground for the Salford City Reds rugby Super League team the development will feature a mixture of other uses, with the outline planning application including proposals for around 21,000sq m of retail space.

Town hall renovation on track

The £200,000 restoration of Eccles’ 19th century town hall is well under way, with both internal and external repairs bringing the building back to its former glory.
Urban Vision is carrying out the 12 week improvement programme which, once complete, will see the creation of a new entrance, reception area and lift, as well as windows repaired and bricks cleaned.

Northwest still ahead of UK average despite slowing output growth

Recent data suggests a slowdown in the northwest's private sector output but the region has continued to out-perform the wider UK economy.
At the start of the third quarter the research also suggested that employment had risen for the first time in three months.

£14 million facelift gives tower blocks a taste of the high life

Four tower blocks, built during a revolution in modern housing 50 years ago, are to undergo a £14 million revamp.
