Spending cutbacks will hit city hard

Published: 2010-06-14 09:44:47

Government spending cuts are set to hit Salford hard with a number of high-profile schemes now under review. (Sourced from Manchester Evening News.)

Two flagship regeneration schemes - in Langworthy and Pendleton - are under threat following the change in administration.

The much-vaunted plan to transform Pendleton with more than 600 new homes and a refurbishment of 1,200 council properties could face the axe.

And development of Chimney Pot Park has been frozen after a grant was put under review.

Last week, the Advertiser also revealed shock proposals to close Salford Magistrates Court.

Now, transport bosses are also considering scrapping the controversial M60 Lain Gain scheme between junctions 12 and 15 in Worsley.

But a £75m plan to transform the river bank between Manchester and Salford has been launched.
