The North West Construction Knowledge Hub held a debate on green lighting, at the CUBE Gallery on Portland Street, on March 24th.
Chaired by TV's Granada Reports weatherman Fred Talbot, the event marked the launch of CUBE's
"Brighter Futures" Exhibition. The debate discussed advances in green lighting and new lighting technologies; in particular solid-state lighting, and potential energy savings and carbon emission reductions.
As part of the exhibition, attendees from the region's construction industry were given an overview of all the lamp types currently available on the market, information on artificial lighting and the importance of design and embracing new lighting technologies. Attendees could also see some of the products on the market first-hand, including Nine different low-energy fittings.
The expert panel included; a property developer, designer, lighting specifier and lighting manufacturer.
On the success of the event, Tony Baldwinson, project manager commented: "The issues of climate change have meant that every industry now needs to be aware of the energy its uses and look how they can reduce their emissions. By bringing together a representative from each area of the built environment we were able to effectively discuss the importance of green technologies and how we can integrate them into a commercial environment.
"The high turn-out shows that sustainability is still very high on the agenda for construction professionals and we will be offering advice to those companies throughout the North West as they strive to become more energy efficient."
