New promenade for The Quays marks Irwell River Park milestone

Irwell River Park will reach a landmark in its development with the creation of a public promenade around the Quays following investment from the regional development agency NWDA.
Completing the pedestrian route, this £3.6 million project will extend the Trafford quayside in front of Imperial War Museum North to create a high quality 4,700sq m space.
This is a key phase in the Irwell River Park scheme, which will see the development of an internationally recognised waterfront destination for Greater Manchester along an 8km stretch of the River Irwell - creating new urban realm spaces and linkages that will enable Greater Manchester to compete with other major waterfront destinations in Europe and worldwide.
The promenade will complete the missing element of the pedestrian loop along the riverside, allowing unobstructed waterfront access around The Quays for the first time and linking to the new footbridge opposite MediaCityUK.
Chris Farrow, chief executive of Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company, said: "This is an important milestone for Irwell River Park and is a major step to improve connectivity, drive tourism and attract investment into the city region."
