The Manchester Salford Pathfinder (MSP) is to receive £42 million Housing Market Renewal (HMR) funding for 2010/11 from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) – 100% of the figure originally earmarked by Government, subject to a review of performance.
The award is in recognition of the progress that has been made to date to transform neighbourhoods in both cities. A total of £361 million will have been invested in Manchester and Salford through the HMR programme between 2003-11.
This has funded a range of activities to tackle deep-seated issues caused by the over supply of unpopular and poor quality housing types in many of the cities’ poorest neighbourhoods.
To date 13,000 new homes have been constructed and over 12,000 homes refurbished in the Pathfinder area. Areas to benefit from investment include Beswick, Openshaw, Harpurhey and Moss Side in Manchester and Lower and Higher Broughton, Seedley and Langworthy and Charlestown in Salford.
