Walkable streets programme underway

Published: 2009-12-09 10:15:54

The first phase of Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company's Green and Walkable Streets Programme is now underway. Work on Chapel Street is expected to be completed in Spring 2010.

The work will focus on creating a greener and more pleasant environment with new street furniture and public art, tree and shrub management and overall improvements to the area.

The programme covers Bexley Square, St John’s Square and the walkways and gardens to the west of Salford Cathedral, a grade II listed neo-gothic building.

The Green and Walkable Streets programme aims to bridge the gap between the smaller, neighbourhood environmental improvements being undertaken with local communities and the large-scale public realm projects such as Greengate.
