The New Broughton hosing development is back on track after receiving £8m of Kickstart funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
Work on the Countryside Properties scheme will now restart, allowing an additional 169 homes to be built.
Councillor John Merry, leader of Salford City Council, said: “I'm delighted that we can now get things moving again with the development which will contribute to the wider regeneration of the city.”
When complete the New Broughton in Lower Broughton project will see the creation of 3,500 new homes, a new primary school, recreation and open space along with new retail and local facilities.
The homes will offer properties for rent, private and shared ownership, and the scheme is due to be completed in early 2011.
The £8m HCA funding comes from the national pot of £51m being invested in housing projects around the country, and comes in addition to the £8m Salford City Council received from the Government to build more than 100 new homes in the city last month.
