Gleeding the way to MediacityUK

Published: 2009-10-01 15:34:19

Widespread support was voiced at a recent ‘Question Time’ event examining the BBC’s move to Salford.

An invited audience of journalists, planners, local authority representatives and residents joined the debate, which included Sir Steve Redgrave, Barbara Slater, director of BBC Sport, and chief executive of Salford City Council Barbara Spicer.

Other panellists on the night included Bryan Gray, chairman of Peel Media, Felicity Goodey, chairman of Central Salford Urban Regeneration Company and John Holland, director of MediaCityUK for the University of Salford.

Richard Steer, senior partner at Gleeds, cost consultants to Peel Media on the project said: “With such a distinguished and senior panel the discussion of the development was both lively and informative.

“Obviously there are reservations from some people who will need to re-locate to Manchester from London but what is not in doubt is that the BBC will be the anchor tenant for a development that is already the envy of all those working in the media, from Hollywood to Bollywood.”
