Prom proposition

Published: 2009-09-24 13:17:00

Peel Media has applied to Trafford Council for permission to create a pedestrian promenade and accompanying public realm outside the Imperial War Museum North.

Designed by London-based Form architects, the proposals include the creation of a stepped area built over the current canal embankment, providing a walkway and informal seating area leading down to the water’s edge.

If permission is granted, the completed project would create a circuit linking key sites such as the Mediacity piazza, The Lowry and the Imperial War Museum North, enhancing Salford Quays’ role as a major draw for tourists.

The promenade is part of Central Salford URC’s ongoing Irwell City Park project, which seeks to maximise the role of the river and improve pedestrian connectivity throughout the city.
