The BBC will receive the keys to the first of three buildings at MediaCityUK on Monday 28 September.
Building ‘C,’ which will eventually play host to radio station BBC 5 Live and to BBC Sport, is ready for handover and the residential tower behind will be ready for people to move in from March 2010.
Chris Farrow, chief executive of Central Salford URC, the company guiding Central Salford's regeneration programme, said: "It's a myth that regeneration takes a lifetime. We don't buy into that – it makes a change every day.
"There are 221 new apprenticeships that wouldn’t have a happened were it not for Mediacity so we are not waiting for it to come along, these things are happening as we speak." Farrow added that of the 2,000 construction jobs onsite, 1,200 are taken by Greater Manchester residents.
The announcements were made at the 'Investing in Regeneration' event held by Central Salford URC on 23 September at The Lowry Hotel, Salford. The event also saw the launch of the third issue of Central Salford magazine, published by 3Fox International.
